About Me

Ramesh Gorjala

My Journey as an Artist

I was born in 1979 in Srikalahasti, a town known for its spiritual energy and for the traditional art of Kalamkari. Growing up in a family of weavers, I was constantly surrounded by art, texture, and colour. My earliest memories are of watching my parents create intricate designs on fabric and learning the foundations of art from my uncle and first guru, Balaji Theretham, an acclaimed Kalamkari artist.

Art was never just a hobby for me it was my way of seeing and understanding the world. While studying at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, I began exploring more contemporary mediums. Moving from natural vegetable dyes to acrylics and handwoven paper allowed me to bring my traditional roots into the present moment, to experiment, and to find a voice that was uniquely mine.

What drives my work is a deep respect for Indian mythology and storytelling. I am fascinated by how one figure like Hanuman or Krishna can represent a multitude of narratives. In my paintings, I start by sketching a central figure, and within that form, I include intricate motifs and smaller scenes that represent the many aspects of their story. It’s a detailed and meditative process, one that demands both technique and emotional connection.

Over the years, I’ve been honoured to receive awards such as the Mahatma Gandhi Birth Centenary Memorial Award from Victoria Technical Institute, Chennai, and the State Award from the Andhra Pradesh Crafts Council. But for me, the greatest reward is when someone feels something deep when they see my work when a painting sparks curiosity, memory, or even devotion.

I continue to explore new ways to bring the sacred into the visual, the ancient into the now. I hope my work invites you to pause, reflect, and connect with the stories that have shaped our collective spirit.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Sharing My Art with the World

Exhibiting my work is a deeply fulfilling experience it’s where the private act of creation meets the public space of connection. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to showcase my art across India and internationally, and each show has brought new perspectives, conversations, and relationships that continue to shape my artistic journey.

My paintings have been exhibited in various group and solo shows—from Chennai to Mumbai, Hyderabad to New Delhi, and internationally in galleries and art fairs where Indian art finds global resonance. Whether it’s a quiet solo exhibit or a bustling art fair, each platform gives me the opportunity to engage with viewers, answer questions, and hear interpretations that often surprise and inspire me.

I believe art should travel it should reach people from all walks of life and from every corner of the world. I’m always looking forward to new opportunities to exhibit and collaborate, to bring these ancient stories into new spaces.

Thank you to everyone who has visited, collected, and appreciated my work over the years. Your support fuels my journey.
